Katarzyna Akhtar is an adult psychodynamic psychotherapist, who trained at the Tavistock Clinic. Alongside her private practice she continues working as a psychotherapist in both, Camden & Islington and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trusts.
Katarzyna provides brief therapeutic interventions and psychotherapy on a short or long-term basis. She specialises in the treatment of a range of clinical problems, including depression, anxiety, trauma, panic attacks, burnout, personality difficulties and relationship issues. She has particular interest in the work with PTSD, addictions, postnatal depression and psycho-somatic health.
She originally trained as a special educational needs teacher and worked extensively with adolescents and young adults with learning difficulties, mental health issues and Autism and Asperger’s.
She has over sixteen years of experience of working therapeutically with individuals and groups in a variety of mental health settings, in which she worked with adults, children, young people and their families.
Whilst living in the UAE, Katarzyna wrote and coordinated unique, psycho-educational programmes to teach and promote the practice of mindful meditation and emotional well-being. She used her deep understanding of the destructive impact of stress, which could result in addictive/obsessive behaviour and increased anxiety. She continues to deliver her programmes internationally and brings this breadth of experience to her current psychotherapy practice.
In collaboration with other mental health clinicians, Katarzyna founded ‘Wellness PitStop’ a mental health and well-being consultancy service. She delivers workshops to organisations including the educational, legal and financial sector. She provides psychological advice, support and education in order to reduce workplace stress and promote work/stress balance. She offers specialist consultation groups and individual sessions to professionals.
Katarzyna is an accredited member and abides by the code of ethics of the BPC (British Psychoanalytical Council) TSP (Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists) and the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).
